STRONG LIKE MOMMY Progress – Jovana G

Jovana G. also reminds us that Bikini Season is upon us as she is looking smoking hot after shredding 50 lbs (!!!) along with 10 inches around her waist, 6 inches around her hips, and 12 inches around her thighs. This STRONG MOMMY says, “Jenny I feel wonderful and I keep getting compliments everywhere I go! My clothes fit great, I bought a new bikini and can’t wait to rock it on the beach in Florida (as shown in the photo)! I am also happy because I feel like I inspired others to start the program and get healthier. As a parent it’s so easy to forget to take care of yourself so I’m very happy I finally did! And obviously I want to be a role model for my kids and show them that #StrongIsBeautiful.” Based on these sizzling hot photos, Jovana’s reminder of Bikini Season is much better reminder of the 2.. I can’t wait to share more of her journey!

My 3 ‘Must Haves’ for Diaper Changes

With my Baby Boy at 6 weeks old, I’ve been changing diapers 8-12 times a day and the words ‘poo, poop, poopy, and pee’ have become a HUGE part of my vocabulary (haha). During the first couple of weeks my baby was at his most fussy during diaper changes so anything thing that would make the the process smoother – I was all for it! These 3 products are my ‘Mommy must-haves’ for the never-ending diaper changes: 1. #WipeWarmer – I received this handy gadget from a good friend and it actually arrived in the mail two weeks into motherhood so I witnessed firsthand how my baby reacted to cold wipes…and it wasn’t pretty! When I used the wipe warmer it was music to my ears (as in no crying) and all smiles to my face. It made diaper changes so much more enjoyable for the both of us. I definitely recommend this little luxury for Baby and Mommy! 2. Baby Balm – I’m definitely not a fan of unnatural products especially for fresh newborn skin so …

6 weeks Postpartum Accountability Check!

I’m 6 weeks postpartum and I finally have the ‘green light’ to lift heavier and increase metabolic and core stability training, the gloves are off and I’m picking up the intensity. Since I am breastfeeding I’ll be eating healthy (as per usual) but eating what I want and when I want without counting calories. As part of my lifestyle ritual, I have a good idea of how much I need to eat with measurements of protein and carb sources along with keeping up dietary fat intake. One of the amazing things about breastfeeding is that you can burn up to 500 calories a day so my extra ice cream and cookie splurges balance out the energy deficit it creates (umm…bonus!). I’m going to increase the volume of exercise along with intensity levels but will keep my sessions at no longer than 45 minutes (free time is of the utmost importance when you’re a new Mommy). I’ll forego the typical cardio based work and save it for walks in the fresh air with my boy…and most importantly enjoy being a Mommy …

EXERCISE AND PREGNANCY

Whether it is from a friend or family member, I’m sure we’ve all heard the same thing before – to stop exercising and lifting weights because it is dangerous for a new Mommy and also dangerous for baby. Just to be clear, this is baloney. Of course we should always consult our doctor beforehand but if our focus is having a healthy pregnancy then there is no reason why we can’t exercise and lift weights. In fact there is enough research out there that shows Fit Mommies are in labour shorter, have less chance of preterm labour, have fewer complications, and much briefer hospital stays. A STRONG MOMMY also has more daily energy and a better sense of well being, much faster Post-Partum recovery, less discomfort in the pelvic area and back due to much better conditioned muscles, are less likely to have varicose veins due to better circulation, has less risk of excessive weight gain that can result in permanent stretch marks, and (very important to most) a quicker return to their pre-pregnancy weight. …

Diastasis Recti (“Mommy Tummy”)

Mommy Tummy is probably one of the things that scares new mothers the most because we want nothing more than to fit right back into our skinny jeans and our tight clothes. Unfortunately we have to be very weary of how we exercise with our little bundle of joy growing inside of us because pregnancy causes some pretty big shifts in our centre of gravity. Pregnancy also affects our posture and our overall alignment. Because the baby is growing in our stomach there are also major changes to the abdominal walls which is actually a condition called Diastasis Recti, also known as abdominal wall separation. This happens when there is a forceful pressure on the rectis abdominis causing the connective tissue to stretch and separate from each other! This is most common during the 3rd trimester when the stress of an advancing pregnancy is occurring and the affects of Diastasis Recti can be felt long after our baby is born. So how do we know if we have it? Lie flat on your back with …

TEAM STRONG GIRLS Success Story – Wendy D.

TEAM STRONG GIRLS Success Story Wendy came to me a little more than 1 year ago looking to lean out and lose a little bit of weight. Having tried a number of different diets, we put together a program that was more realistic for her but was also aligned with her goals and we far exceeded what she was originally seeking. With her first goal of a lean, tight physique completed late last year this STRONG GIRL asked me my thoughts on competing in a Fitness Show and I said…absolutely!!! It was something Wendy set forth as a personal challenge tto try, at least, once in her lifetime. After a few months of “filling in the gaps” on her 6’1 frame with a building phase, Wendy rocked the stage last weekend at the IDFA Championships where I was shouting at the top of my lungs along with her STRONG SISTERS in the stands!!! Before her show and after trying on her The Crystal Suit contest bikini for the first time, Wendy said to me, “Thank …
