Plan, plan, plan.

A little caution to the wind and some Food Prep planning helps avoid the dietary mishaps that will often plague our day because we all know that there’s no avoiding food temptations – it’s everywhere right??? As a busy mommy, taking some downtime for food organization helps me stay on track because when I’m on plan – my food is cooked and prepped on the weekends so, during my upcoming busy week, my meals are ready and there are no surprises. I also know, and am well aware, of all of my nutrition obstacles by writing them down along with accompanying solutions to help me avoid any dietary breakdowns in plan…which is usually my hubby. TEAM STRONG GIRLS Biweekly Progress – Karen B.

Awesome. Awesome. Awesome. I’m so proud of my client, the beautiful Karen B., who send me biweekly reports of beautiful compliance and (more importantly) embracing new and positive lifestyle habits around exercise and food. In 8 short weeks we have significant tightening up and even an outrageous 5 inches lost around her hips and 4 inches around her arms…and she’s still going strong! Karen says, “I love my program Jenny! I have seen more results with you in 8 weeks than the past few years trying to do this on my own!” This STRONG GIRL is enjoying a bevy of food and is kicking butt with her workouts. I can’t wait to share more of her progress!

Break Up With The Scale

I love when my girls break free from dieting prison which, to me, also includes the torturous act of continuously weighing yourself. It’s incredible how many of us can be affected either positively or negatively by what the number on the scale says. The truth of the matter is the scale only tells us our relationship to gravity. When used in conjunction with additional information it does have its value but over time, as one progress with their fitness goals and their physique, the scale becomes less relevant. I actually encourage the “break up” with the scale to happen as early as possible. That being said, I am so happy any time I receive a message from one of my girls that has done just that! Marilynn R. says, “Jenny I have officially broken up with the scale. I never, ever weigh myself anymore. In fact, after the batteries died in my scale over a month ago, I took the thing, boxed it up, and put it away in my closet. I don’t even care …

TEAM STRONG GIRLS Success Story – Joanne J.

A few weeks ago I had the pleasure of meeting Joanne J. (age 48, mother of 2) for the first time and I am so, so, so proud to share her journey with us. She came to us a few months ago looking to lean out and under the tutelage of Coach Kim G. who put together a strategy of consistent exercise along with eating more quality foods measured for her and her goals, this STRONG GIRL is down 21 lbs and has also lost over 23 inches. As far as the scale goes, she is the lightest she’s ever been and feels fantastic! Joanne also borrows her teenage daughter’s clothes! LOL! Love it! Joanne says, “My daughter Jordan and I went on a mother/daughter trip to Cuba in February. Looking at pictures of myself when we got home, I felt terrible because I felt like I looked like a ” square box”, with no shape whatsoever. I had been following JVB Fitness and Nutrition on Facebook because of STRONG GIRLS Tanya B and Kelly …

STRONG LIKE MOMMY Success Story

Another STRONG MOMMY transformation is in the books and I’m so ecstatic I was able to capture these gorgeous images of Tara D. and Baby Sloane. Tara came to me soon after Baby Sloane was born and was determined to get into the best shape of her life. Already active with her consistent workouts, we just took a more precise approach in terms of shaping her body by moving away from long bouts of high impact cardio and conditioning and moving into heavier weight training for the purpose of shaping her physique. With her nutrition program, we increased her protein and carb intake along with (more importantly) not looking at food as “good” or “bad” so I had her enjoy her FREE MEALS rather than feel guilty about it. This STRONG GIRL shed 23 lbs along with 9 inches around her waist, 5 inches off of her hips, and 6 inches off of her thighs! I love all of the incredible shape she has developed because everything about her is tiny, tight, fit, and strong! …

STRONG LIKE MOMMY – Exercise during the 1st and 2nd Trimester

As I settle into the 2nd trimester of my pregnancy, my body is becoming accustomed to all of the changes that is happening inside of me. Even better, my Little Bean is starting to make an appearance pushing out my midsection and as I start to share all of these changes with my family, friends, and loved ones I am frequently asked – “Are you still working out?”. The answer is YES. Do I advocate exercise during pregnancy? The answer is also YES. Do I advise everyone to do the same exercises? That answer is NO. Please consult your doctor before engaging in anything strenuous especially during pregnancy but as a rule of thumb, if you were active before the baby then there isn’t any reason you should continue staying active during pregnancy. (In contrast, if you were inactive before your pregnancy it isn’t a good idea to all of a sudden get heavily involved in a disciplined training regimen of consistent and strenuous activity if your body wasn’t conditioned prior) Of course my training …

Good Coaching and breaking the dietary mindset

I’ve had the pleasure of working with hundreds of clients over the past year. The most rewarding thing about this is the experience I have in mapping out a strategy to achieve their goals and steering them back in the right direction when they go off track. This is coaching. Occasionally in the middle of this journey a client may ask “Can you please teach me how to calculate my calories, protein, carbs, fat, etc. because I do not want to gain weight again?”. This is usually the ‘grey area’ that my role as a coach becomes misunderstood as a “human food/fitness calculator”. When I strategize a fitness/weight loss program for a client, my main goal is to have my client walk away from our work together with the tools to not only maintain their new bodies but to have instilled a new way of living being able to make healthy choices – eating nutrient dense food, being more active, and eating regularly. Bad habits such as inactivity, relying on processed food as a regular …
