Toxic People – Get Rid Of Them

One of the biggest struggles my clients constantly encounter is guilt from “friends” just for choosing to be a better version of themselves. Of course it’s not just my clients. It’s almost everyone that wants to take their fitness goals to another level. Even me! While I certainly encourage a periodic dieting break while “on plan” to be used with friends, family, or loved ones so there’s plenty of room to enjoy food freely without getting negative commentary about your health choices… There are always others that are scheming to derail you or belittle you simply because they can’t take charge of their own life. So my advice when it comes to those people who belittle your goals and ambition: GET RID OF THEM. They’re TOXIC. Because when you do get rid of them, it’s still not fast enough. Having supportive people in your life is so important and when they fit my “Triangle Of Safety”, then I know I’m in good company. i) People that are truly happy for your success. ii) People that …

“Life Always Gets In The Way…”

None of us are exempt from the pressures in life. We all have stress and situations that test us or possibly even push us to the brink of crumbling. All too often, something or someone or some moment, causes us to lose track of our goal and revert back to behaviours that no longer add value to our lives. We’ve all been there right? Of course most of the time we don’t choose our adversity BUT we certainly have the power to choose our response to it. And it’s this response that I call the “IF Factor”. IF we respond positively to challenges and difficulties, then the outcome will be potentially positive. IF we respond negatively to our challenges and difficulties, then the outcome will be potentially negative. IF we respond to challenges and difficulties in the same manner as we always respond to it (i.e. emotional eating, BLTs, etc.), then the outcome will almost certainly be the same. The pain of adversity never leaves us unchanged, but if treated right, can be the catalyst …

Feeling Bloated?

With today’s typical diet being low in nutrients and high in empty calories coupled with high levels of stress and added medication, it’s no wonder that more and more people are suffering from some kind of bloating. In addition to feeling discomfort bloating can come with every embracing symptoms such as gas or needing to go to the bathroom very quickly. So what are the most common symptoms of a bloated stomach? If your stomach protrudes outwards and you constantly feel uncomfortable because you have built up gas inside of you then this is a sign of bloating. In fact many sufferers from bloating even joke around saying how pregnant they feel because of the need to unbutton their pants when their bloating becomes severe. The great news is a bloated stomach is very different from actually gaining fat mass around your stomach since the bloating is temporary with air simply being stuck around your abdomen causing the tummy to distend outwards. Even better, stomach bloating can be rectified very quickly by simple changes to …

“I LOST 45 LBS (AND LOOK AT THE MIDSECTION DIFFERENCE!!!) AND MY LIFE HAS CHANGED FOR THE BETTER!”

What can I say about the gorgeous Celine who came to me dreading shopping and a goal of covering up her body every time she went out. And… I cannot have any of my STRONG GIRLS feel like that so we put together a strategy to get that weight off using plenty of food, creating dietary structure, lots of food variety, and resistance training to shape her body…and shape it we have! To date, Celine is down 45 lbs down along with 8 inches off of her waist, 8 inches off of her hips and 4 inches off of her thighs! Insane. Celine says, “I was yo-yo dieting with my weight for such a long time and when I signed up with Jenny, I was the heaviest I’ve ever been. I was blown away by my friend Ilana who is a Strong Girl and looked absolutely stunning and it took me a while to take the plunge and commit. I wanted to lose weight and dreamed of being fit. Today my lifestyle has changed for …

Is The Snack Trap Interfering With Your Weight Loss?

We’ve all heard that snacking is great for the metabolism but I actually disagree with that notion especially if weight loss is your goal. Of course there are healthy snacks recommended such as almonds, avocado, crackers with peanut butter or cheese, cottage cheese, fruits, etc. and while these foods can certainly be high quality, excessive snacking can halt your weight loss results if your overall diet doesn’t fit into your body’s caloric deficit. In other words there are only so many calories that the body can have before it starts storing it as unwanted body fat so wven if you’re eating perfectly healthy meals and putting in your time at the gym, if your snacking is out of control then your results will be disappointing. Here’s what you need to know to avoid The Snack Trap: 1. Calories Count. Even when you’re snacking on “healthy” food, you’ve got to keep track of how many calories that you’re taking in. Almonds are healthy, but if you down 800 extra calories in them you’ll quickly gain weight. …

POOR PLANNING VERSUS PLANNING

A couple of years ago, my hubby and I had the blessed opportunity to visit Japan as part of our honeymoon. This, of course, was a surprise to me because my husband likes to live by the seat of his pants and take me along on his adventures (part of why I love him and also how he drives me crazy lol) so he completely rerouted our trip home from Hawaii to the opposite direction (who does this??? LOL!) all because he wanted to eat sushi at a particular restaurant that required booking a few months in advance. I’m a planner. So after our very organized trip to Hawaii, I had some anxiety leaving the planning to my hubby going to Japan but because this was his idea I left it to him to research what we we were going to do and see. Because life with my hubby is always an adventure, I just sat back and let everything unfold because he is oodles of fun. Of course he barely did any planning beginning …

Looking for faster weight loss? Read how water can help!

Client – “Jenny my diet is on point but I’m starting to feel low energy, my weight is fluctuating, and my strength is waning. I’m not sure what’s going on?” Jenny – “Are you drinking all of your assigned water?” Client – “Not really. I tend to forget.” Jenny – “Drink your 3-4 Litres daily please” New clients always start off talking to me about weight loss and I always move the conversation to metabolism (because of my commitment to long term fat loss) but what does metabolism exactly mean? In a nutshell metabolism is the sum total of all the chemical reactions in the body but more specifically when it comes to calorie burning metabolism, I am referring to thermic efficiency. So naturally an increased thermic rate within our bodies increases the requirement for water. Since consistent exercise is a big component of my fat loss strategy with my clients and (thermic rate is higher), the energy substrates that are in our muscles (such as ATP, CP, and glycogen) requires more intracellular water to …

10 Year Wedding Anniversary…

My client, STRONG MOMMY Joanna F. (who works with me from Paraguay), is looking spectacular in her wedding dress (especially with those STRONG GIRL shoulders and arms!) as she celebrates her 10 Year Wedding Anniversary with Rio De Janeiro in the background! Joanna says, “Hi Jenny! It was always my dream to be able to wear my wedding dress again on my 10th anniversary and do a photoshoot in it. A lady once told me that once I become a mother that my body will never be the same either through weight gain or the way clothes will fit such as a pair of old jeans. At that time I didn’t know what to think but today I know it is possible…and to in even better shape than when I was younger! My jeans are even smaller and I also fit into my wedding dress! Being a mom of 2 required more dedication and commitment for me to stay on track with my workout and eat with compliance but I know how important it is …

Plan, plan, plan when it comes to Weight Loss

One of the biggest challenges that new mommies have with #Postpartum weight loss is where to start. It’s so easy to let the hectic lifestyle of being a parent overwhelm us and eating habits get thrown out the door…even completely lost for that matter. When I begin work with a client, the best course of action is obviously the one that works best for them (we all have different lifestyles and responsibilities) but before being able to figure that out in detail we must begin to accurately track nutrition and workouts. This is likely my first recommendation to anyone starting on their weight loss journey and even progressing along with their fitness goals! As a new Mommy myself, I’m still learning how to balance my schedule and workload while being attentive to my growing 8 month old Baby Boy so knowing exactly what I’m eating in advance (and exactly how much) allows me to keep adequately fuelled and also on track with my fitness goals. My Protein, Carbohydrates, Dietary Fats, and Vitamin/Mineral intake is all …
