Ladies, we all know what comes around like clockwork that drives our hormones, moods, and decisions awry. It’s “THAT TIME OF THE MONTH”.
Probably the most asked question I get from female clients has to do with chocolate (or sugar) cravings during our dreaded premenstrual week.
I often laugh because my clients think it is something crazy (insane, nutty, cooky…take your pick of descriptive words to use) inside them that makes them have these insatiable cravings. The great news is “it’s not just you”. It’s BIOLOGY.
What happens during “that time of the month” is we lose progesterone (a hormone) and magnesium. Ironically, chocolate is a rich source of magnesium so, therein, lies the correlation with the chocolate cravings.
I will be putting a handful of recipes into the Strong Girls Cookbook (it’s coming soon…I’m just getting the photos ready) around this exact topic but, for now, the best and healthiest way to curb these cravings is consuming the following:
– snacks made with raw chocolate powder (cacao)
– increase your high quality fish oils
– cooking in high quality fats (coconut oil)
– food sources rich in Vitamin B Complex (quinoa, vegetables, fruits, legumes, nuts, meat, eggs, and dairy)
