Lemon Water – The Superhero of Alkalizing!

Image

I’m a huge advocate of Lemon Water in the morning! I believe it’s very important to ‘break-the-fast’ properly after a night sleep. Lemon water acts as a natural detox and gets your digestive juices going and ready to break down food. It’s also very alkalizing to the body. To function properly, your blood and other bodily fluids need to maintain the right acid-alkaline balance, or homeostasis. The food you eat – especially the type of food you eat regularly – affects this acid-alkaline balance. All foods can be classified as neutral, alkaline-forming or acid-forming in your body. If your diet is rich in protein and refined carbohydrates the acidity in your blood/body is high. Eating more fruits and vegetables especially lemon water will alkalize the blood and help you to absorb more oxygen boosting your energy levels and immune system.

Start your day off on the right foot –  drink 2 cups of lukewarm water with ¼ cup of fresh lemon juice (squeezed in the water) upon waking. Wait 20 minutes before eating to allow for cleansing time.

Here are just a few more benefits daily lemon water can have on your body:

1. Improves Immunity
2. Acts like a natural diuretic
3. Improves skin quality
4. Gets rid of toxins from your body (acts like a mini liver cleanse)
5. Relieves constipation
6. Alkalizes the body
7. Breaks down phlegm
8. Aids in digestion (gets natural enzymes flowing)
9. Helps breakdown gallstones
10. Relieves nausea

  2. I do this every day faithfully. But I heard somewhat conflicting info. Is it better to do it with hot or warm water? I always do it with cold water. Some people say that it may help even a little to raise metabolism, since your body has to work (use energy) to warm the water internally. Just curious is there is a big difference in the benefits one way or another. Thanks!
